"How do your legs get such power, Bode Miller?"
15.01.07 11:02
On Saturday Bode Miller won the Lauberhorn Downhill in Wengen. The American does his bike training on a BMC Superstroke
Interview:
Congratulations on your win at Lauberhorn Bode Miller. The longest downhill course in the world demands extreme power. Where do your legs get such power from?
Through hard training and clever pacing down the course. It is imperative on this course to have a "smart" pacing strategy. That means relatively easy at the top and then full gas at the bottom.
Since last autumn you have ridden a BMC mountain bike, what part does that play in to your routine?
During the World Cup winters my training is very varied. The Superstroke is always a great compliment to my training. I don’t just use it for training though; it’s also good for the quick trips to the race courses, to the restaurant and to press conferences. Jake my driver, and Chance my cousin have Superstrokes too; they are thrilled with them and use them on a daily basis.
You leave the bikes outside the restaurant?
Yes, not just at the restaurant, also by the camper wherever that is parked when we aren't riding them. But we lock them up of course. The interest in the bikes is incredible.
In what way is cycling ideal for alpine skiers?
For powerful legs of course and to warm up on the rollers before the race. But warming down too: after a race as hard as Wengen every skier has to spend 45 mins to 1.5 hours to help clear their legs of the various substances that have built up during such a massive effort. Cycling is also good for fine motor function, feeling of balance and endurance. Above everything else though, it is a lot of fun.
You have been riding the Superstroke regularly for a couple of months now. Your comments on this bike?
Helpful, functional, fun – simply sensational …!
